Engine oil is far more than a simple lubricant. It is a precisely engineered fluid that must perform under extreme heat, pressure, and chemical stress — all while keeping your engine clean, cool, and protected.

Base Oils: The Foundation

Base Oils: The Foundation

Modern engine oils start with a base oil — either mineral, synthetic, or a blend of both. Synthetic base oils, derived from chemically modified petroleum or entirely synthetic compounds, offer superior stability at high temperatures and better flow at low temperatures compared to conventional mineral oils.

Additive Packages: The Real Magic

Additives make up 15–30% of a finished engine oil and are responsible for most of its performance characteristics. Detergents keep engine surfaces clean, dispersants suspend soot and contaminants, anti-wear agents form a protective film on metal surfaces, and antioxidants slow oil degradation.

Viscosity: The Balancing Act

Viscosity: The Balancing Act

Viscosity — the oil’s resistance to flow — must be carefully balanced. Too thick and the oil won’t circulate quickly enough at startup; too thin and it won’t maintain a protective film at operating temperature. Multi-grade oils like 5W-30 achieve this balance using viscosity index improvers.

At APL, every formulation is the result of rigorous R&D, ensuring that our oils deliver maximum protection, efficiency, and longevity — no matter what your engine demands.
